World Telecommunication and Information Society Day seeks to raise awareness about the importance of the Internet. World Telecommunication Day and Information Society Day were established in two different years by the UN General Assembly, 1969 and 2006, respectively. They were combined into one day in 2006. It is observed annually on May 17th.
