The first female judge in Trinidad and Tobago and the Commonwealth Caribbean was Madam Justice Elizabeth Bourne who was appointed a High Court Judge in 1972 and left the bench in 1976. She was born in St. Lucia of Barbadi- an parentage and made Trinidad and Tobago her home in 1960.
