TEAM T&T OLYMPICS 2021

The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) has named a team of 30 athletes to compete at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

The team includes three athletes who have won Olympic medals.

Keshorn Walcott won gold in the javelin at the 2012 Olympic Games and bronze at the 2016 Rio Games.

Richard Thompson, who has raced only three times since 2016 (all in 2021), won gold in 2008 as part of the 4x100m relay team.

The 36-year-old also won silver in the 100m at the 2008 Games and silver in the 4x100m at the 2012 Games.

Deon Lendore was part of the bronze-medal winning team in the 4x400m at the London Games of 2012.

The team is dominated by track and field athletes (21) and this country is set to compete in seven sports.

A transitional team in nature, fifteen of the athletes will be competing at the Olympics for the first time.

A total of 11 women have been named to the team, with long jumper Tyra Gittens, sprinter Ayla Stanislaus, judoka Gabriella Wood, cyclist Teniel Campbell, and swimmer Cherelle Thompson competing at the Games for the first time.

Wood and Campbell are the first women from Trinidad and Tobago to compete in their sports at the Olympic Games.

Among the men, sprinters Dwight St Hillaire, Kion Benjamin, Adell Colthrust, Eric Harrison, Akanni Hislop, Asa Guevara, and Che Lara, and long jumper Andwuelle Wright, are at their first Olympic Games.

In addition, cyclists Kwesi Brown and Nicholas Paul are also getting their first taste of the Olympics.

The team is slightly smaller than the contingent for Rio 2016, where 32 athletes competed in eight sports.

A team of 27 officials will travel with the team, headed by Chef de Mission, Lovie Santana.
