CALYPSONIAN KENNY J DIES FROM COVID-19
The 69-year-old calypsonian passed away on Sunday morning from COVID-19.
A retired policeman, Kenny J, real name Kenwrick Joseph, was among those calypsonians whose name became synonymous with Christmas.
The honey-voiced singer was known for cheeky double entendre Parang Soca songs such as “Alexander”, “Paintbrush” and “Hush Yuh Mouth”.
As a calypsonian, he made his mark in the genre, placing second in the National Calypso Monarch finals with “Addicted to Sweet Soca’ and “Leave She Alone” in 1990.
In 1987, he won the T&T Police Monarch competition.
Prior to falling ill, Kenny J was busy with appearances last month on WACK, at Parang with Rome in the Naparima Bowl and on the last Christmas episode of Penny on Point on TTT.
He was also seen on television advertisements encouraging citizens to get vaccinated.
Kenny J was born on July 15, 1952 in San Fernando.
