Modified Coat of Arms of T&T

Writer: ptessslmcptessslmc

The modified coat of arms of Trinidad and Tobago now features a gold steelpan with its iconic pan sticks, replacing the three ships of Christopher Columbus, signifying a move to remove colonial references from the national emblem and prominently display the country's national instrument, the steelpan.

Key points about the new coat of arms:

  • Symbolism: The steelpan represents Trinidad and Tobago's unique cultural heritage and musical tradition.

  • Removal of colonial imagery: The decision to replace the Columbus ships is seen as a step towards decolonization.

  • Design artist: The new design was created by artist Gillian Bishop.
