Learn about Ste. Madeleine

Writer: ptessslmcptessslmc

Ste. Madeleine, a village with an industry that was once the pride of the British Empire. Ste. Madeleine is actually named after the estate Usine Ste. Madeline which was owned by Mary Madeleine in 1838.

Ste Madeleine lays between San Fernando and Princes Town and its first introduction into recorded history was in 1838 during the post slavery period. The village was initially known for it's impassable roads but also for the magnificent Cipero River, which allowed for easy transportation of the sugarcane crop via sea.

Get ready as SIL prepares to take you back in time to visualize the rich history and mixture of cultures and people of this quiet, tight-knit village of Ste Madeleine.
