International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day aims at raising awareness about the numerous physical, mental, and emotional benefits of practicing yoga. Established by the United Nations, the day encourages people from all walks of life to embrace yoga as a holistic approach to achieving harmony among mind, body, and spirit. It also serves as an opportunity to promote global health, well-being, and imbibing the principles of a healthy lifestyle.

First proposed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 2014 UN General Assembly speech, International Yoga Day was officially recognized on December 11 that year with an overwhelming majority of member nations. For Americans, the day offers an opportunity to learn about yoga's origins, ancient techniques, and its potential to address modern-day health issues prevalent in the nation, such as obesity, stress, and chronic pain. The day also seeks to highlight the growing popularity of yoga in the U.S. as millions of Americans, including professional athletes and celebrities, turn to yoga for its myriad advantages.

On International Yoga Day, cities across America host various events and activities, including free yoga sessions, workshops, and seminars led by experienced practitioners. Yoga studios, gyms, and community centers typically participate by offering special classes or discounted rates. These events aim to make yoga accessible to all, irrespective of age, fitness levels, or experience. The U.S joins the global celebration of International Yoga Day on 21st June each year, emphasizing its commitment to promote health and well-being for all.
