International Day of Disabled Persons aims to raise awareness about disabilities at every level of society.
The 3rd of December is observed annually as the International Day of Disabled Persons, also called the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD).
The objective of the day is to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development, as stated by WHO.
The day also aims to raise awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
The year 1981 was proclaimed the International Year of Disabled Persons (IYDP) by the United Nations in 1976. A major outcome of that was the formulation of the World Programme of Action Concerning Disabled Persons that was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1992.
